After a studying TV broadcasting and realizing that she had a different calling, Katie received her culinary training at the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Tampa. Her work experience in the food industry includes the kitchens of the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg, Tastings wine bar, and an internship as a food stylist at The Home Shopping Network. Prior to moving to Austin, TX, last spring, Katie would do regular cooking demos on Studio 10, a morning TV talk show in Tampa Bay. Until recently, she was the editor for the Food & Drink and Green Community sections of Creative Loafing Tampa, an alternative weekly newspaper and website in Tampa Bay.
Now calling Austin, TX, her new home, Katie is currently a freelance food writer and recipe developer, and a full-time cooking instructor, blending her passion for food and her media background. She is known for her experimentation in the kitchen (which usually involves a lot of spice) and re-working of recipes to put a personal spin on them.
